Two Places in Hunan Selected as National Tourism and Leisure Blocks

On March 13, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the fourth batch of national-level tourism and leisure blocks. Two blocks in Hunan Province were shortlisted: Yuhou Street in Suxian District of Chenzhou and Qianyang Ancient Town Tourism and Leisure Block in Hongjiang City of Huaihua.

Covering approximately 120,000 square meters, Yuhou Street in Chenzhou is a comprehensive demonstration zone integrating sightseeing, cultural leisure, dining, accommodation, and shopping. The tourism and leisure block has been recognized as a "Hunan Provincial Nighttime Consumption Demonstration Zone," a "New Business Format and New Scene for Hunan Cultural Tourism Consumption," and a "Hunan Provincial Nighttime Cultural and Tourism Consumption Cluster."

The block currently is home to 323 stores and 181 business entities, with nearly 160 nighttime economy operators that engage in entertainment, dining, cultural creativity, sightseeing, and shopping. In 2024, the block recorded around 4.5 million visits, generating an annual revenue of 375 million CNY.Qianyang Ancient Town, located at the confluence of the Yuanshui and Wushui rivers in Hongjiang City, Huaihua, is a millennium-old town and a core area for Huaihua's tourism development. The block spans about 240,000 square meters, with a main street stretching 1,000 meters.

Qianyang Ancient Town enjoys profound cultural heritage and rich historical landscapes. It is home to two national key protected cultural relic units—the Qiancheng Ancient Architecture Complex and Furong Tower. This earns the place the reputation as the "Jiangnan Ancient Architecture Museum" (Jiangnan refers to the region in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River). The town also thrives with modern tourism business formats, featuring folk culture experiences, Hanfu-themed activities, and boutique homestays. Over the past three years, the ancient town has received a total of 3.5 million tourist visits, generating a total tourism revenue of 280 million CNY.

This year, a total of 40 national-level tourism and leisure blocks were selected nationwide.
